The success of HCAC’s Scholarship Program would not be possible without the financial generosity of the community, local businesses, organizations and the philanthropy of a group of unique individuals and corporations…they have become our community’s Padrinos, Compadres y Amigos. HCAC wishes to thank all those who have volunteered and contributed over the years to make dreams come true, to build a better community.

Scholarships are awarded to high school graduates, GED recipients, community college students, students attending a four-year college or university, and students accepted into a postgraduate education or credential program. The scholarships are dedicated to recognizing the Hispanic/Latino culture and the education of Hispanic/Latino students.

Scholarship Awards

  • Community college scholarships of $750 each
  • Transfer student scholarships of $1,500 each
  • Four year college scholarships of $1,500 each
  • Postgraduate scholarships of $1,500 each

Scholarships are awarded per academic year. The number of scholarships awarded will vary according to the availability of funds.

Requirements

  • The applicant must be of Hispanic heritage as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • The applicant must be a graduating senior, past-year GED recipient, community college student, transferring community college student, student attending a four-year institution, or a student accepted into a post-graduate program or teacher credential program.
  • The applicant must be a resident of Alameda County.
  • The applicant will be evaluated on the following criteria, in order of importance:
  • Financial Need
  • Scholastic Record
  • Essay
  • Interview
  • The applicant must plan to attend an accredited community college, university or approved technical or vocational school.

Documentation

The application must be typed or printed legibly and must be filled out completely to be considered. Click here for an application.

  • A copy of the 2007 1040 tax form(s) for your family in which you are claimed as a dependent must be included.
  • Official high school, GED, college or university Fall 2008 semester or quarter transcript must accompany this application.
  • The application must be postmarked no later than Friday, February 13, 2009.
  • Include a photocopy of your school identification card.
  • Application materials must be mailed to:

Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail and will be honored at a luncheon banquet in May 2009. Scholarship funds are disbursed in two (2) equal payments.
